Visiting Churches in India Christianity is known to be India's third-largest religion and has a large number of followers, over 23 million per some recent reports. While Goa is considered to be the state with many churches, tourists should be aware churches are found all across India. In just about every state in India, the chances are that you will find churches. They all stand out for their own uniqueness.

St Cajetan Church Goa

The St. Cajetan church is located in Old Goa. This church was built during the Portuguese regime. It is said to be built in the style of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The church is built by the Italian friars. As one enters the Church, there are the altars of St. Agnes, St. Cajetan and St. John to the right and the altars of St. Clare and the Holy family of Our Lady of Piety to the left.  St. Cajetan church is one of the popular attractions for tourists visiting Goa. Tourists can visit the church easily by hiring local transportation such as taxi or buses.

St.Philomena's Church

 Built in the Gothic style is in Mysore India and was built in 1956 and is said to be one of the largest churches in India. The church is illuminated in the evening hours and quite a popular attraction for locals as well as tourists. The main hall or nave of the cathedral can seat up to 800 people The twin spires of the Cathedral are 175 feet tall. St. Philomena's church is considered to be not only a religious place but a major tourist attraction in Mysore. The church also runs an orphanage on the premises. Holy Mass is held in the morning and evening. Special masses are held on Sundays and on festivals. Every year on August 11th, a feast is held. 

Church St. Cajetan in Goa

The St. Cajetan Church is located in what is known as old Goa in the North Goa District, Panaji. The church is named after St. Cajetan, the founder of the Theatine order. The church is divided into two aisles and a nave. As you enter into the nave, you see the main altar which is matchless in design. The main altar has three other altars on each side.
