Beaches in Kerala

Many of India's best beaches are in Kerala. The state of Kerala's entire 900 kilometers coastline is lined with sandy beaches and coconut palm trees. Kerala's beautiful beaches are prominent worldwide and many tourists from various parts of India and abroad vacation at beach resorts in Kerala.

Kovalam Beach Kerala, India

Kovalam beach is situated on the Malabar Coast along the Kerala shoreline. "Kovalam" means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees. The crescent-shaped beach has three parts. The most popular part of the beach is called the light house beach. The coconut trees along the beaches give it a ravishing look.  Kovalam is a natural bay ideal for kayaking, swimming, surfing and skiing. One can swim in the shallow blue water and have a sunbath in the exotic tropical sun for a suntan. The coast at many places is lined with beautiful patches of coral reefs or you can crest the waves on logs of lashed woods on catamarans. At present Kovalam is developed not only as a beach resort, but also as a Yoga and health center. One can have Ayurvedic massages and oil baths or learn in detail the methods of doing Yoga and meditation taught by experts. From Kovalam, you can go for a backwater cruise to the beautiful countryside of Kerala paddling country boats as you enjoy the lush greenery of the surroundings. Varkala Beach Kerala

Varkala beach is a quiet secluded beach. This beach is famous for its mineral springs that are said to have curative properties. The Janardana Swamy Temple a shrine for Lord Shiva, which is said to be 2000 years old, is also a few minutes walk from the tourist beach area.   Many visitors feel that a dip in the holy waters of Varkala beach helps them purify their body and soul. Varkala is a peaceful town just 52km from Trivandrum international airport and 176km from Cochin international airport. Kollam is approximately 37 Kilometers away. October is the best time to visit.

Kumarakom Beach - Kerala, India

Located on the Southern coast of India Kumarakom enjoys a balanced tropical climate. Kumarakom offers visitors many other leisure options. Boating and fishing facilities are available at Kumarakom.  Muzhappilangad beach is considered to be one of the longest beaches in Kerala. This beach is also the only drive-in beach in India. Here you can drive on the sands of the beach for the full 4 kilometer length of the beach. Muzhappilangad is a clean beach where you can swim, sunbathe or just lounge around and relax. The nearest town to this beach is called Thalassery and is 7 kilometers away. The nearest airport is the Karipur airport which is approximately 100 kilometers away.

Payyambalam Beach Kerala

Payyambalam Beach is a quiet, secluded, beautiful beach and is widely admired for its scenic beauty. This beach is only 2 kilometers away from Kannur town. Near the beach is a popular sculpture of a mother and child. This beach is a popular picnic spot for the local people although tourists are gradually discovering this beach. If you prefer to surfing in calm and peaceful waters, then this place is just for you. The nearest railway station is Kannur which is only 2 kms away. The nearest airport is the Karipur airport 93 kilometers away.

Sankhumugham Beach Kerala

The water on this beach is not suitable for swimming although the beach has a long stretch of clean sand. The main attraction here is the breathtaking view of the sunset and facilities of an indoor recreation club where children love to go. Sankhumugham is only 8 kilometers from Thiruvananthapuram.

Thirumullavaram Beach Kerala

This beautiful and secluded beach, filled with coconut palms is ideal for an early morning walk as one can see fishermen gliding into the sea for the days catch. The beach has good bathing facilities. Canoe rides are also available here. The beach is also an ideal picnic spot for the local residents. The other activities here are Yoga and other health related activities like therapeutic massage etc. Thirumullavaram beach is located 6 kilometers from the city of Kollam.
