Images of India - Photographic Journey of India
Traveling to Goa by Bus
Overnight sleeper buses run from many cities to Goa, I took a sleeper bus from Pune to Goa in India. Not recommended to anyone. Imagine driving
along curved roads going up or down a mountain for several miles in the middle of the night. Not a very good feeling as you slide of and on on your
sleeper berth in the bus. (Click photo on right to enlarge and see road)
These buses also don't have washrooms, the blankets provided are dirty and the coach is very uncomfortable. If going by bus, opt for a day bus and
take a seat instead of a sleeper. We did this on our way back.
Satellite TV in Slums
One billion people worldwide live in slums according to the United Nations. Housing being a major expense, a large number of the poor class
Indians live in slums also. Click on the photo to view the number of satellite television even on top of slums.
Many of these slum dwellers have regular jobs, their kids go to school and they do have electric power free of charge usually as they simply tap into
the overhead hydro lines.
Human Rickshaw
One of the oldest form of taxi! Rickshaws and Horses are used as transportation in some hilly areas. Calcutta,
now known as Kolkata also has such human rickshaws. This photograph is from a small hill station in the
state of Maharashtra called Matheran.
Matheran has no roads for motor vehicle, the mode of travel is walking, these rickshaws that a pulled
manually by a person called the 'Rickshaw Puller' or horses which are rented all over the city.
Horses take a single passenger and the horse owner usually walks the horse as you ride on it.
No discrimination on Goa beaches!
Regardless of which country you come from or whether you are human or not! All are welcome to enjoy Goa
beaches.
Goa is one of the most popular tourist destination in India. During the Christmas getting a hotel room in Goa
is next to impossible. Christmas holiday season is when prices skyrocket in Goa. I visited Goa in January and
found prices drop after the first week of January to realistic levels. The weather during our stay in Goa was
excellent. All attractions are open and one does not have to cope with the Christmas rush.
Here’s a cow enjoying Goa beaches along with hundreds of visitors from many countries across the world.
Indian Food - Popular of Indian Fast Food
Fast food in India is not just for snacking between meals! its what many simple depend on as complete meals. Samosa is one of the most popular
fast food snack that can be bought all over India.
The popularity of Samosa is well established. I was even able to purchase frozen Samosa packets in Seattle, USA last year. Another popular Indian
snack is the 'vada' which is popular in the State of Maharashtra. Vada's in places like Mumbai have the same popularity as hamburgers in the west.
Selling Fast Food in Punjab
Pau Bhaji a mixture of vegetables are served with small buns (called 'Pau'). Indian food is
commonly believed to be quite spicy, however this should not be interpreted as spicy hot all
the time. Many varieties of spices are used to cook Indian dishes so don't assume every
food item has a lot of chilli peppers.
In many northern parts of India, people use sugar along with other spices to cook food. In
Southern India, food does tend to be on the Spicer side with hot pepper.
Boat Cruises for tourists in Goa
A major attraction for thousands of visitors touring Goa every year are the boat cruises. There are several companies that
provide these short cruises and are located on Panjim.
The cruises are usually about an ninety minutes or so long and they provide entertainment with some audience
participation also.
There is also a restaurant on these boats so visitors can buy refreshments as they enjoy the cruise and watch the
entertainment. The entertainment provided on our boat consisted of musical dances of different types. The show indeed is
entertaining and an experience both young and old would definitely enjoy.
