Nicobar Islands

Are located to the south of the Andaman, 121 km from the Little Andaman Island. Of the total 572 islands, only 36 islands are inhabited.

Climate

The islands have a tropical climate. There is medium to heavy rain during the monsoon, in the months from May to mid September and November to mid December. There is no extreme climate except rains and tropical storms in late summer.

The main entry point to the Islands is Port Blair. There is an airport in Port Blair that is serviced by flights form Chennai and Kolkota. Traveling to the Islands by ship is also another option. Please check the entry formalities before finalizing your travel plans to these Islands.

Foreigners Entry

Foreign tourists need a special permit to visit the Andaman Islands. This can be obtained from Indian Missions abroad or the immigration authorities in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, and Chennai or on arrival at Port Blair. Permits can also be obtained from The Director, Ministry of Home Affairs (ANL Division), Government of India, 2nd Floor, North Block, New Delhi - 110 001, through Indian Missions at least 3 months in advance.

Foreign Nationals Entry Restriction

Please note that foreign nationals are not allowed to visit Nicobar Islands.

INDIANS

Indian nationals need no special permits to visit Andaman. However permits are required to visit Nicobar Islands, issued by The Deputy Commissioner, Andaman at Port Blair. *(As rules and regulations change periodically please checks with the Indian Government tourism offices when planning a visit to the Andaman-Nicobar Islands.)
